| Reentry Programs |
|
| |
- 630,000 offenders are released
from prison every year, many more are released from jails
- The problem of their recidivism has become a
crisis that affects all parts of a community
- Fewer
than half of all released offenders stay out of trouble for at least 3 years
after their release from prison
- Many of these offenders commit
serious and/or violent offenses while under parole supervision
- These prisoners will have
served longer sentences than ever and have fewer positive connections to their
past community life, including families, employers and positive community
connections
|
The benefits to providing good
reentry services are inmates are able to return to the community with a greater
chance to succeed and by providing these services a county can reduce recidivism
rates.
